Knysna Oyster Festival

The Knysna Oyster Festival is a renowned event drawing seafood enthusiasts from across the country. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, this festival promises to be a "pearl of an event", meaning there's no better time than 2023 to make the trip! 

Held annually over ten days, from the 30th of June to the 9th of July, it offers a feast of fun, food, and festivities. As its name suggests, oysters take centre stage, allowing visitors to indulge in the finest of these delectable molluscs. However, the festival is not just about oysters, or even food; while it showcases the diverse culinary offerings of the region, it also includes events for runners, cyclists, art and culture enthusiasts and families.

With over 200 wines from over 50 different wine estates, the Knysna Wine Festival, a part of the Oyster Festival, adds more sophistication to the experience, creating a true paradise for food and wine lovers alike!

Knysna Wine Festival

Speaking of which, the Knysna Wine Festival, featuring on the 7th of July, is a premier showcase for local wines, adding a touch of elegance to the Knysna Oyster Festival. Wine lovers flock to this beautiful festival to indulge in the flavours of over 200 wines from over 50 different wine estates. 

With offerings from the renowned Cape Winelands and Garden Route regions, attendees can enjoy tasting various wines and craft liquors. From rich reds to crisp whites, the festival provides a delightful opportunity to savour the craftsmanship and flavours of the local wine industry.

Knysna Forest Marathon

On the 8th of July, the Knysna Forest Marathon will offer a plethora of exceptional features setting it apart from any other trail run worldwide. Living up to its name, a significant portion of the route immerses participants deep into the enchanting Knysna Forest, treating them to awe-inspiring estuary vistas and even the iconic Knysna Heads. These captivating sights serve as a delightful distraction, providing a motivating boost during the final kilometres of the race.

A Full-Day and Half-Day marathon will be featured on the same day. The Half-Day Marathon will start at 8AM, while the Full-Day Marathon will begin at 7AM sharp. Participants are encouraged to choose a trial which best suits their fitment levels.

Knysna Cycle Tour

If cycling is your passion, the Knysna Cycle Tour is an event not to be missed. From the 1st to the 3rd of July, this two-day mountain biking adventure takes riders through the heart of the magnificent Knysna Forest. MTBs, E-BIKES, and gravel bikes are all welcome, making them accessible to a wide range of participants. 

Day one offers the choice between an 85km or 45km loop through the indigenous forest, providing invigorating climbs and thrilling descents. 

Day two presents riders with two options: the Concordia Contour Trails, a breathtaking 40km ride in the hills above Simola. The Knysna Cycle Tour promises unforgettable moments and much off-road forest fun.

Rastafari Earth Festival

In addition to active pursuits and on a different wavelength, Knysna also hosts the 131st Rastafari Earth Festival, which celebrates the vibrant Rastafarian community and culture in the town and will take place from the 22nd to the 29th of July. This colourful and rich festival showcases the Rastafarian way of life, including food, music, and philosophy.

Held in Judah Square, the administrative Rasta capital of the Southern Cape, this ten-day festival features church ceremonies, music splash, and the Emancipation Celebration, commemorating the abolition of slavery. Visitors can immerse themselves in the Rastafarian culture, learn about their rituals and sacred rites, and join the festivities.
