Margate & Uvongo

Following the Kwa Zulu Natal coastline south-west of the Durban Metro one reaches the South Coast, stretching along 120km, from Scottburgh to Port Edward, along the shores of the Indian Ocean. The area, like much of the province is characterised by golden beaches, magnificent scenery, its tropical climate and holiday vibe. The area has also been nicknamed the Golf Coast due to the sheer number of golf courses in the area, many of which are ranked in the Top 100 courses in the country.

Margate's was named after a fellow coastal resort town on the coast of Kent in the UK whilst Uvongo takes its name from the Vungu river which allegedly is derived from the Zulu word describing the noise made by a waterfall. These coastal towns both feature a variety of accommodation ranging from beachfront complexes to freestanding homes, a small-town pace of life and spectacular beaches. Six of these along the South Coast boast Blue Flag status.

Educational options include Hibiscus Pre-Primary school, Port Shepstone Primary School and South Coast Academy.

The need for medical facilities is met by the Netcare Margate hospital https:// www.netcarehospitals.co.za/Hospital/Netcare-Margate-Hospital. A number of allied medical services are present in the area.

An number of retail opportunities are found in the surrounds: the Hibiscus Mall in Margate itself https://hibiscusmall.co.za/, the South Coast Mall https://southcoastmall.co.za, and Shelly Centre https://www.shellycentre.co.za/, both in nearby Shelly Beach offer an array of facilities.

This area on the South Coast offers so many benefits the coastal lifestyle has to offer: a more laidback approach, less traffic and crime than urban areas. A plethora of outdoor activity options for individuals and families exist: many of which may involve the scenic Oribi Gorge and Lake Eland. Not forgetting winter's annual Sardine Run, a favourite withs the anglers. And then there are a selection of glorious beaches: popular family-friendly Ramsgate beach, a Blue Flag beach featuring tidal pools, lifeguards and facilities and shark nets, Margate beach also equipped with shark nets and Lucien beach with an additional selection within close proximity. Idyllic living indeed.
